Fighting for Kent County Taxpayers
Dan was raised in Southeast Grand Rapids, and educated through Grand Rapids Public Schools. He attended Dickinson, Alger, and Ken-O-Sha elementary schools. He graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and the University of Michigan.
After college, Dan began selling insurance eventually becoming an agent with State Farm. In the mid-1980s Dan and his wife, Mary, moved into their current home located in Northeast Grand Rapids. There, they raised their two daughters, Lindsey and Meghan. Both daughters attended St. Thomas the Apostle School, and graduated from Catholic Central High School and Michigan State University.
In 2010, Dan was re-elected to the Kent County Board of Commissioners. His fellow commissioners elected Dan as the Vice Chair of the Board in 2012 and Chair of the Board in 2013, serving through 2015. He has chaired the county's Finance and Fiscal Resources Committee, Legislative and Human Resources Committee, Aeronautics Board, Senior Mileage Review Committee, Millennium Park Architectural Board, and Hospital Finance Board. Additional experience includes service on the Community Correction Advisory Board, Community Mental Health Board, Kent County Employees Pension Board, Conventions and Visitors Bureau, West Michigan Sports Commission, Kent County Board of Public Works, and Kent County Dispatch Authority. He currently chairs the Kent County Airport Authority and serves as the Vice Chair of the Department of Public Works Board. Dan and his family are parishioners at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Grand Rapids is where Dan grew up and where he raised his children. He has been a committed member of the Grand Rapids community living in the 18th District since 1984.
Dan has served as a leader on the Kent County Commission and in the community. Whether through appointed leadership or volunteer, he is a dedicated leader and he looks forward to continuing his service.
Dan has delivered positive results for Kent County. He will continue to protect taxpayers by ensuring the conservation of resources and efficent government.
As your Kent County Commissioner, Dan sets benchmarks to achieve, and has faithfully served his community. He will continue to pursue these goals as the strong leader Kent County needs.
